Minecraft Server

As Tentacle Boss has informed us all, there once was a MOPS Minecraft server, due to hackers/griefers the server was shut down. Permanently.

On the bright side, me and my mate -edit- have been planning on creating our own! It's base will be a PvP Faction raiding server. Right now no progress has been made as my friend is having trouble deciding whether or not he could give a damn...

Fortunately if all else fails I have server palls that are pretty decent with server security. If the server comes live it will be a Multiplay, and depending on if tent allows, will be a MOPS server.

Don't quite know what else to post. If you want more detail into the server please ask, also post your ideas in a reply. Thanks.

We are willing to collaborate so long as we have a mutual agreement on how to deal with people, and how to problem solve. I.e we both have an understanding of what constitutes griefing, how the server will be run etc. So long as that is covered to avoid any pointless drama then I would be happy to negotiate. Only thing that concerns me is your friend, since I have been involved with servers in the past where a head contributor has been at a distance, the server operates fine, but then the head contributor comes back temporarily and fucks everything up selfishly. I.e defying server rules because "he can" or because they lack an understanding of their own server, thus ruining the experience for everyone else, staff and players. Leading onto things like griefing, starting new worlds without consulting, random unexplained server outages and no contact.

Work it out past a concept, make sure you are collaborating with the right people, then we can talk.

An idea for promotion though;

To get mops members onto the server,offer them an exclusive /kit or rank. (rank doesn't have to do anything, it just looks pretty, like a coloured username and/or building rights.)
the /kit command is used to give a player items. And could be reused after 24hours. It would be like a pvp starter kit. People could be mailed the code to spawn their exclusive kit over these forums, after they have signed up.

Yeah i was thinking about people that are members of the forum have a [MOPS] before their name. probs green. and get several basic commands such as /home /tpa all them so non-e most theymembers won't experience they could achieve without spending 5 seconds to sign up.

If u join the forum. you get a green [MOPS] prefix or something.

aswell as some basic commands.

so people who are not on the forum cannot have as much fun. and are more tempted to join the forum.

Sounds alright but my problem is that everyone could become a [MOPS] if they joined the Forum, which they probably will, and it won't really become anything of a special thing.
You might want to do it like if you're on the forum for a certain time like a couple of weeks or a month or something to keep it to the point where it's still a fairly exclusive thing but not hard to get.

Other than that everything sounds like a riot

Well you'd give them the basics to play the game, just have the server indicate every two minutes something along the lines of: "Join the forums for free and for extra benefits! http://mops.betaboard.net"

Well the fact it's unique will draw SOME PEOPLE. Then people will ask "how did they get that?" Then we would tell them how, and they could sign up and it would bring extra traffic/participants. I see only a benefit. Remember, having a [Mops] tag isn't like being an admin. The youngerkin will still have something to whine about simply because they don't have it. So don't worry.

True, but if that happens, oh well. The benefit we are giving them is minimal. But they will in turn bring us traffic, and occasionally, people will stick around to participate, and when people in the server have suggestions, for the most part we can redirect people to the forums, essentially migrating them over here wilfully if they want their voices heard.

This is why I wanted contributors. Without them the server wouldn't be prospering even this much. Glad to see people care though, if we keep this up the future will be bright.
